FAQ

What are the best times to shoot?

The light is best around two hours after sunrise and two hours before sunset, which is the Northwest can change a bit. In the summer this is around 6:30-7:30 and in the fall and winter, around 3:30-4:30.

Is there a discount for referrals?

Yes! If you refer someone who books and shoots with me, you will get a discount on your next shoot! Contact me for details.

What if we have to reschedule?

As we all know, the weather can be pretty unpredictable here in the PNW. For this reason, if we have to reschedule your session due to weather concerns, we'll just pick a different date to reschedule free of charge. If someone in your family is sick, or if you need to cancel for any other reason, you may do so at least 24 hours prior to your session. If you cancel after that, or on the day of your session, you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee as I may not be able to book another session that day when I otherwise could have.

Can I bring my pet?

Yes! Your pets are your family too! Please bring your fur babies to your session! I recommend if you do bring a pet, to avoid wearing black, as dog and cat hair show up easily on black clothing. And if you bring your dog, be sure to pack lots of treats to reward them during and after your session!

What should I wear?

Whether you're styling for an engagement session, or a family session, I always find it helpful to style one person first, and then choose different outfits for everyone else based on that first outfit. For women, wearing flowy dresses will add movement to your photos. I also recommending adding layers when you can, like a cardigan and boots in the fall, which will add depth to your photos. Wearing accessories such as hats, will also have the same effect. Try not to match outfits perfectly, but wear colors and patterns that compliment each other, such as blues and whites in the summer, or earthy tones such as burgundy and brown in the fall. And as far as patterns go, try to wear conflicting patterns, because they can look a bit too busy. And if you ever need help choosing outfits, I'm available to help you out too! I offer free styling advice with every session.

How do I prepare for my family session?

If you have littles, it's important to tell them ahead of time that they'll be getting their pictures taken. Hype them up, and let them know how much fun they'll have! Make sure they are well rested and fed before their session! No one's happy when they're tired and hungry! At the session, try not to put any pressure on your kids. We want this to be a fun experience for everyone. I've got tricks to get them to smile, laugh, and show their true personalities. I also like to allow them to do some exploring and playing (especially with their parents) to capture those truly candid moments. It can also be helpful to bribe them with ice cream after, or bring little snacks (something like goldfish, that isn't very messy). We all bribe our kids every once in a while, so don't feel guilty!
